CT: The Hartford Wolf Pack held on in a highly contested battle against their CT rivals, the Bridgeport Islanders, in a 3-2 victory in front of 6,937 Hartford fans at the PeoplesBank Arena Friday night. Justin Dowling nailed the game-winner on the empty-net goal at 18:23 of the third period on his backhand to seal the deal for the Wolf Pack, giving them their fourth victory in their last five games. “The first period was really important.” Wolf Pack Head Coach Grant Potulny on tonight’s win. “Gutty effort to close it out at the end.”   BOX SCORE Liam Foudy buried a loose puck with traffic at the crease in front of Dylan Garand (21 saves), on the power play for his 11th goal of the season, with the helpers coming from Marshall Warren and Matthew Highmore. BISON DROP CLOSE GAME TO KOMETS By: Erik Konwinski, Bloomington Bison Fort Wayne, Ind. – Nikita Sedov extended his point streak to five games, and the Bloomington Bison fired 20 shots on net in the third period but fell 3-2 in a spirited game against the Fort Wayne Komets at the Memorial Coliseum on Saturday evening. For a second-straight night against the Komets, Bloomington allowed five of the first six shots of the game, and while on a delayed penalty, Hugo Ollas stopped a breakaway chance to keep things scoreless early. Less than a minute into the penalty kill, the Bison netminder then made an aggressive save and kept the puck moving to send Zak Karpa on a breakaway. With Fort Wayne’s netminder out of position after making the initial stop, Bloomington was then denied a shot into a nearly empty net by a defenseman’s stick. EARLY HOLE TOO MUCH TO OVERCOME AS WOLF PACK FALL 4-1 TO PENGUINS By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Hartford Wolf Pack fell behind 3-0 in the opening period on Saturday night at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza. The early hole proved to be too much to overcome as the Wolf Pack fell 4-1 to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins . Gabe Klassen picked up his third goal of the weekend just 7:57 in, breaking the ice on the power play. Klassen worked into the right-wing circle and ripped a shot over the right shoulder of Callum Tung to make it 1-0. The goal was Klassen’s ninth of the season. Tristan Broz extended the lead to 2-0 at 10:20. Broz took a pass from Rafael Harvey-Pinard, found space in between the circles, and snapped a shot by the glove of Tung for his 14th goal of the season. Mackey, 29, has skated in 32 games with the Wolf Pack this season, recording seven points (2 g, 5 a) and 54 PIM. He has yet to make his season debut with the Rangers. Over the course of three seasons in the Connecticut capital, Mackey has appeared in 142 games with the club, recording 42 points (10 g, 32 a). He has dressed in three games with the Rangers during that time. The native of Tower Lakes, IL has appeared in 42 career NHL games with the Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, and Calgary Flames. BISON GOALIE MCKAY SIGNS PTO WITH ROCKFORD ICEHOGS By: Erik Konwinski, Bloomingtn Bison Bloomington, Ill. –  Goaltender Dryden McKay has signed a professional tryout with the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, the team announced on Friday. McKay, 28, has appeared in 13 games for the Bison this season and earned a 7-5-1 record after being acquired via trade from the Utah Grizzlies on November 4. The Downers Grove, Illinois native has played in three AHL games and posted a 1-1-1 record with the Toronto Marlies and Ontario Reign. In 116 career ECHL games, the 2022 Hobey Baker Award winner has posted a 50-49-11 record with a 2.98 goals against average and .906 save percentage with four shutouts. McKay amassed 113 wins and 34 shutouts in 140 games at Minnesota State University-Mankato, which are both NCAA Division-I records. WOLF PACK RECALL D COOPER MOORE FROM LOAN TO BLOOMINGTON BISON By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, CT – New York Rangers Associate General Manager and Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Ryan Martin announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Cooper Moore from loan to the ECHL’s Bloomington Bison. Moore, 24, has appeared in 12 games with the Wolf Pack as a rookie this season, recording two assists. He notched his first career professional point, an assist, on Nov. 21 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He has also skated in five games with the Bison, notching two assists. The native of Greenwich, CT, signed a one-year deal with the Wolf Pack on Jun. 23. Prior to signing with the Wolf Pack, Moore skated in 163 NCAA games over five seasons with the University of North Dakota and Quinnipiac University. MACDONALD LEADS BISON OVER WINGS ON JAN 7 By: Erik Konwinski, Bloomington Bison Bloomington, Ill. – Ayden MacDonald scored twice and registered an assist to help propel the Bloomington Bison to a 4-3 win over the Kalamazoo Wings at Grossinger Motors Arena on Wednesday evening. The Bison created early defensive success by getting sticks in shooting lanes and limiting Wings chances in the team’s first game back from a four-games-in-five-nights road trip. Following an early Bloomington redirection chance, Kalamazoo countered with an odd-man break and snuck the puck in to gain a 1-0 lead four minutes into the opening frame. After the goal, momentum was all with the Bison, who would eventually finish the period with a 15-8 shot advantage. Bloomington had an odd-man rush of their own but it was capped off by a whiffed one-timer chance on the response shift following Kalamazoo’s tally. BISON KYLE JACKSON NAMED TO ECHL ALL-STAR TEAM By: Erik Kowinski, Bloomington Bison Bloomington, Ill. –  Kyle Jackson has been named to the 2026 Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic team, the league announced on Wednesday. The game will be hosted by the Allen Americans on Monday, January 19, at 6:00 p.m. CT at Credit Union of Texas Event Center. Jackson, 23, leads Bloomington with 30 points (11g-19a) in 23 games played this season and has appeared in four games with the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolf Pack. The Ottawa, Ontario native has tallied seven multi-point games, including two four-point outings, so far in his third professional season. Jackson played in two AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and 67 with the Wheeling Nailers last season. He has amassed 126 points (52g-74a) in 143 career ECHL games and was drafted 196th overall by the Seattle Kraken in the Seventh Round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Va. – Shane Ott tallied a powerplay marker for his fifth goal of the season but the Bloomington Bison allowed two shorthanded goals and fell 4-1 to the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena on Saturday. Bloomington earned the first powerplay opportunity of the game just two and a half minutes in, and the Nailers killed it off before getting one of their own three minutes later. While shorthanded, Hugo Ollas came up with a post-to-post save and the Bison successfully killed off the minor. After back-and-forth action, Bloomington drew another penalty, but it would be Wheeling who benefited from the infraction. Fifty-six seconds into its second penalty kill of the frame, the home team took a 1-0 lead. Just over two minutes later, Bloomington surrendered another shorthanded goal and headed into the intermission down 2-0 on the score sheet. The Pack took round five of the ‘Battle of Connecticut’ by a score of 4-1 from the rival Bridgeport Islanders. The Wolf Pack enjoyed an intense first period, outshooting the Islanders 7-5 and outscoring them 2-0. Carey Terrance opened the scoring 3:13 in, tipping home his third goal of the season. Brandon Scanlin flung a backhander from the right-wing circle to the goal, where Terrance was able to get a piece of it. The goal marked the second time in as many visits to Bridgeport where the Wolf Pack broke the ice. Late in the period, Trey Fix-Wolansky extended the lead with his tenth goal of the season. Carrabes, 24, has appeared in 19 games as a rookie with the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder, scoring nine points (5 g, 4 a). He signed with the Thunder on Apr. 1, 2025. Before signing with the Thunder, Carrabes skated in 110 NCAA games over four seasons with Minnesota State University and Boston University. The native of North Reading, MA, recorded 52 points (25 g, 27 a) during his collegiate career. Henrik Tikkanen posted 31 saves in the Isles' victory, his first shutout of the season. Alex Jefferies recorded the game winner when he took the puck in between the dots and fired a wrister that beat Spencer Martin (25 saves), giving the Islanders a 1-0 lead at 11:00 of the second period. Both teams had some good looks in the opening frame, but both goaltenders were perfect. Spencer Martin made nine saves, including one off a two-on-none rush in which Liam Foudy fed Joey Larson in the left-wing circle. Henrik Tikkanen made eleven stops in the first 20 minutes, including three off Kalle Väisänen. The Islanders opened the scoring 11:00 into the second period. Alex Jefferies took a feed from Sean Day and worked into the right-wing circle. There, he ripped a shot that beat Martin by the blocker for his seventh goal of the season.
